Fuel Queue Disappear As Petrol Price Goes To ₦185 Per Litre

Fuel scarcity is no longer a new thing to Nigerians. It occurs on a regular basis in the country.

Few weeks ago, we brought report of fuel scarcity in Lagos State and other parts of the country. Well, the queues at different fuel stations caused by the fuel scarcity are gradually dispersing. This is as a result of the unanimous decision of independence marketers to increase there fuel price to ₦185 per little.

Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) is not being sold to motorists at varying prices ranging from ₦180 to ₦250 across all states of the federation, including Lagos and Abuja. Even some NNPC outlet are selling above the official pump price as reported by Punch.

On Wednesday, the Nigerian Mainstream and Downstream Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, stated that they are meeting IPMAN members to discuss issues bordering on PMS pump price, payment of subsidy claims among other issues affecting the downstream sector.

But the marketers are saying that they are not aware of any such meeting and they have not been informed. The marketers said as long as NNPC are the sole importer of PMS, the issue of scarcity will continue in Nigeria. They further call on the government to fix Nigeria refineries to help resolve the issue.

However, the regulatory authority, NMDPRA has not issue any statement as regards to the increase in the pump price of petrol as directed by the marketers, signalling that the government may not be against the increase in the price of the product.
