OSUN State Election: Senator Ademola Adeleke Wins


OSUN State in South West Nigeria held their Governorship election Saturday, 16th July, conducted by the INEC, the independent body responsible for states and federal elections in Nigeria.


The Osun decides election is to elect new governor that will be in charge of the state for thee next 4 years.


The election was chiefly between the incumbent governor, Oyetola of the APC party and his PDP counterpart, Senator Ademola Adeleke. 


From the result announced by INEC, Adeleke pulled a total of  402,979 votes against the 375,077 votes gathered by Governor Oyetola.

Senator Ademola Adeleke won in 17 local government areas of the state including Olorunda, Ede South, Orolu, Osogbo, Odo Otin, Ifelodun, Atakumosa, and Ila (Chief Bisi Akande, a chieftain of APC is from here).


While, Governor Oyetola of the APC won in 13 local government areas of the state, including Iwo, Ayedaade, Ife South and Ife East. 


The 2022 Osun governorship election conducted by INEC took place in all the 30 local government areas of the state with 3,763 polling units and 332 registration areas. It is one of the staggered elections away from the general election. 






The INEC returning officer on Sunday morning declared Senator Ademola Adeleke Winner of the election and return him elected.


Meanwhile, Senator Ademola Adeleke is the uncle of one of the Nigeria's music star, Davido. Davido was evidently seen campaigning for his uncle to win the election. While another music star, Portable campaigned for the ruling APC.
