Meet Nigeria's New Acting Chief Judge, Justice Ariwoola Olukayode

 


The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday 27th June, 2022 swore in Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as Nigeria's acting Chief Justice.


This is coming after the willful resignation of the formal Chief Justice, Tanko Mohammed over health related issue. Remember that over 14 Supreme Court Justices signed a petition against Justice Tanko over mismanagement of their welfare as widely reported by the media.


Justice Ariwoola was first appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court in the year 2011 and ever since then, he has discharge his duties well.


He served as the Justice of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria between the year 2005 and 2011 after having been promoted from Oyo State High Court. In the year 1992 from private legal practice, he was appointed a Judge of Superior Court of record in Oyo State Nigeria.



Justice Ariwoola hail from Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State. He attended Muslim Modern School in Iseyin his home country,  between the year 1968 to 1969 before moving to Ansar-Ud-Deen High School, Saki in Oyo North in the same State.


He studied Law at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife and graduated with bachelor of Law degree in the year 1980.

Justice Ariwoola was called to bar shortly after his law school in 1981. He enrolled into Supreme Court of Nigeria as Solicitor and Advocate thereafter.


He had served in various capacities, which include: Oyo State Council on NYSC at Ondo State Ministry of Justice; Legal Officer Ministry of Justice Oyo State; Senior Advocate of Nigeria 1988 to 1989; Oyo State judiciary Judge;  Armed Robbery Tribunal, Oyo State, In Zamfara and Enugu States, Election Tribunal and Election Appeal Court in the following states, Rivers, Enugu, Edo, Adamawa and Kwara.


Justice Ariwoola served as the Justice of Court of Appeal in the following states, Kaduna, Enugu and Lagos Divisions. In addition, he was a member of the fellow of International Dispute Resolution Institute (FIDRI) after been inducted into the organization in Dubai, 2014.
